Jackie Brown

A 1997 film directed by Quentin Tarantino. This film is the realization of Tarantino's own cinematic aspirations. He revived the obscenity and clarity of the Blaxploitation films of the 1970s (commercial films starring black actors and made for black audiences), which influenced him, with a sampling sensibility in the 1990s. The lead role was played by Pam Greer. She herself was a leading figure in the Blaxploitation movement, and her strong and mesmerizing performance in Coffy and Foxy Brown made her a force to be reckoned with. The title logo is a recreation of the style of the era, with the exaggerated swashes of Foxy Brown to recreate the atmosphere of the time. The base font is ITC Tiffany, and references for the swash include Benguiat's design and perhaps the Caslon Black Swash (Benguiat Caslon) used in Foxy Brown's promotional materials. The "a Quententin" under the logo is a reference to Benguiat's design. Goudy Heavyface is used for "a Quentin Tarantino Film" under the logo.

Typeface

ITC Tiffany is a blend of two typefaces: Ronaldson, released in 1884 by the MacKellar Smiths & Jordan foundry, and Caxton, released in 1904 by American Type Founders.its exaggerated serifs are its most remarkable feature. In 1974, Ed Benguiat combined these designs in a contemporary typeface he called Tiffany, which is useful for both short texts and display work.

In 1915, Frederic W. Goudy designed Goudy Old Style, his twenty-fifth typeface, and his first for American Type Founders. Several years later, in response to the overwhelming popularity of Cooper Black, Lanston Monotype commissioned Frederic W. Goudy to design heavy versions of Goudy Old Style. Goudy Heavyface and Goudy Heavyface Italic were released in 1925. The huge success of Goudy’s typefaces led to the addition of several weights to many of his typefaces. In 1927, Morris Fuller Benton drew Goudy Extra Bold.
